Things no photographer ever wants to see:

I came across this sign while taking pictures along the gulf coast in Alabama. Needless to say.... It kinda freaked me out a bit!

The fact that the sun was going down and my wife wasn't going to pick me up for another hour didn't help any!!!

Have I told you that I love the fact that Ireland does not have any snakes (or alligators)?

Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving! I am truly grateful for my family... and it was a real blessing to be able to spend the day with some of them! We had a quiet but fun day. This morning I went over to my sister's house and hung out while they cooked. I was especially intrigued to watch her husband (David) deep fry the turkey. I don't know if you have ever tried it before... wow! It is good! Around lunch time my family gathered at another sister's house for lunch... football... and some Wii competition! It is so good to be home for Thanksgiving!

I know that this is a bit of an old pic - taken back in October... but I have been wanting to post it for some time.

This spot in the woods Virginia is one of my favorite retreat areas.... I always pay it a visit when we have to come back through there.

From DC

DC is a great place to visit. I can't believe that we lived so close... but never really came up here. My sister (Jo) is planning a trip with her kids... so for her.... and anyone else that might want to come here.... here are a few tips.

Don't stay in DC. Find a hotel outside the city. It is safer, cheaper, and less of a headache. We are staying in Springfield, VA. This city is really a suburb of DC and the metro runs out here.

Take the Metro - don't drive. Parking in the city can be up to $30 a day. The metro cost us no more than $5 yesterday.

Find coupons. We picked up some coupons from the VA welcome center and were able to get our hotel for half price!

Ok... I think that might be all for now... I'll post some more if I think of anything.

Now... time for some pictures!

Today is not the day of days....

As a kid I always dreaded that fateful day when summer would come to an end and I would be forced to go back to school. I remember that strange nervous feeling that seemed to grow in the pit of my stomach as the day crept closer and closer.... Well... believe it or not, public schools started back this week (in my hometown). As a child, I can remember thinking how great it would be when I would not have to go to school... now that I am well on the other side of adulthood I need to say that not going to school is far better than I had ever imagined!

Having said this... I am sad to see the schools reopen. In a way I feel like summer is coming to an end. We are going to be going to see my family again soon and it is going to be a bit sad to have all my nieces and nephews in school all day.

Another Random Pic...

Sorry for the lack of updates. We have just now gotten internet access where we are staying and I plan on updating more frequently over the coming days.

In the meantime... here is a picture of my niece (Brooke) unaware that the day was coming to an end...
