Another Blast From The Past...
I mentioned in the last post that I have been sorting through old pictures at my parents' house. I have been wanting to sit down with the many boxes of pics for years now.... and I have finally had the time this summer to start sorting through and scanning them. My parents have been giving me dates for the pics (amazingly my dad had dated about 80% of them) and have explained who the unknown people are in many of the pics. You never know what you will find when you pull out a handfuls of unsorted pictures. Many times I have found pictures from the 1940's mixed with pictures from the 1990's. I've discovered many previously unknown treasures in the boxes.... Like the picture of my sister Jodie discovering Santa had brought her a puppy... or the many pictures of my mother when she was a child. My sister Jenny cried when I told her that I had found a picture of her in a self-made Halloween costume (ET's girlfriend) that had won first place in a contest.
Well...... Many of you know that my family has a tradition of backwards pictures. It began when I was only a child in diapers and my father took a picture of me and (some of) my sisters standing on the beach... Our backs were to him as we blew bubbles into the wind. The picture turned beautifully and Dad instantly fell in love with it. A funny family tradition was born... and it was not long until pictures of us standing backwards at the Grand Canyon... Disney World... or the White House decorated the walls of my parents' den.
While scanning pictures I came across a real treasure........ A failed backwards picture. Our trip to Graceland was never memorialized on the family wall.... but I'll share it with all of you...

An Old Man...
Well.... Today I'm a year closer to the dreaded twenty-ten. I can't believe how quickly the years are going....... I know that is a cliche, but I am really finding it true. The day has really been a lot of fun. I spent the whole day with my mom, dad, and Dee. We didn't do a whole lot... antiqued a bit... And spent a lot of time looking through a lot of old pics (I'm in the processing of scanning a lot of them). My whole family surprised me with a special dinner out (complete with singing waiters) and then ice cream & cookie cake!!! I really had the perfect day.
I'm including a blast from the past. A picture from my second Birthday... The funny thing (to me) is not the pink "choo choo" cake or my blowing out the candles... It is my sister Jenny who is so intently watching & wanting to help.

You Know It is Summertime In the South When...
The birds have to use pot holders to pull worms our of the ground.
The trees are whistling for the dogs.
The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
Hot water now comes our of both taps.
You can make sun tea instantly.
You learn that a seat belt makes a pretty good branding iron.
The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
Your discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
You discover that you can get a sunburn through your car window.
You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
AH! It is great be back in the south during the summer! And to think... It is only 65 at our home in Ireland....

A Few Random Things...
We made it back down to AL late last night. We only had one bus not show up... one plane delayed... and only had to sit on the runway for an hour. Other than that - oh... our luggage got lost... and I am really sick with s0me kind of nasty head cold. Other than all of that.... it is good to be back with Dee's family!
When a van finally came to pick us up and take us to the airport I sat in the front and talked with the driver. I introduced myself... and the man stared at me. He said "My name is Edward Wallace".... how cool is that? My name is Wallace Edward!
I have had an off day today.... the first one in a loooonnnnnngggg time. I just have not felt like lifting my head..... and I've noticed something. American daytime television is overrun with court shows. You know: Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown, The divorce court... and many others that I can't think of right now. It seems like there is one on every hour of the day! Am I hallucinating....? or are there just waaayyyy to many? Anyone else notice this? Well.... I am going to be in quarantine for another day or so.... so stay tuned. I'll try and write more.
