Irish Radio
What is the first thing that you think of when you imagine Irish radio.......?
No doubt that many of you think of Hi diddle do music - Don't think for a second that I don't like traditional music... I love it.... But remember that Ireland is the country that has given the world U2, Enya, the Cranberries, Moya Brennan... Just to name a few.... So you would think that the radio stations here would be great. Well.... A good portion of the day they are. There is a wide variety of stations each playing their own genre and each playing the same music that you would hear in the States... BUT... There is one thing that drives me absolutely crazy. The Irish have the gift of gab and Irish DJs have gotten a double portion! There is no way to estimate how much time is taken up with useless chatter. The big thing is to put out a topic for discussion and then read TEXT messages and emails that listeners send in! This is where I sometimes pull out my hair.... Sometimes you just need a bit of music and every station has someone talking on it!
So......... I have decided to keep my hair and find the humor in it.
Actual discussion topic on a top 40 Pop station this week: Tea. Brew from tea leaves that are loose or tea bags? What is the best brand? Does the shape of the tea bag actually affect the taste? Should you pour milk in first or the hot tea in first (This started a discussion on how historically lower class people would pour milk in first - this was because they did not own quality tea cups and did not want to crack their tea cups with the hot liquid)? A discussion on people's favorite herbal teas. What teas are medicinal?
It was at this point that I lost interest in the discussion and turned off the radio. Ha! Too funny... Too Irish!
